I love food. I am always happy to get food and I can snack all day; however, I literally cannot cook. Like I can mess up the easiest recipes because I have zero practise cooking. Now, for someone who loves to eat this is the end of the world. HOW CAN I LIVE OFF OF KRAFT DINNER OR EGGS? I could, but I want to be really good at cooking whatever I want. Kraft dinner will always be my number one, but I feel like it’s time to adult a little and expand my horizons. This is why I have made a goal to cook dinner twice a week, every week. On the days that I don’t work part-time, I will find a recipe and attempt to cook it. I also decided to turn this into a little series each week, called Call me “Chef“, to share my recipes and progress. Like in one of my previous posts, always note your growth for more success in the future!
The main dishes I chose this week were:
- Spaghetti Squash Carbonara (TOTAL FAIL)
– With schnitzel and Broccoli
- Garlic Butter Salmon
– With seasoned baby Potatoes and Asparagus
I am not even going to talk about the first dish because IT WAS AWFUL, I love spaghetti squash but this was bad from the start. I added too much garlic (thank you flavoured olive oil, you ruined me..) and I bought mozzarella cheese instead of Parmesan cheese, I don’t know how but it happened! Did I mention the squash was undercooked too? It would have been good but too many things went wrong and all together it was maybe a 4 out of 10.
We will just skip that but I linked the recipe above, so try it out and show me how much I suck at cooking.
Before I even started cooking my second meal, I was praying it would be a different story and way easier since I chose a more simple main course. Let me tell you, it went a lot better! I was still a chicken with my head cut off running around the kitchen, but the fish was soooo yummy! It was buttery and the lemon really made it light and fresh! The potatoes were normal potatoes, so that’s good… however, the asparagus was under cooked but I don’t even care. I am just super happy the fish turned out pretty close to plan (note for next time: a few less lemons and little less butter). The Fam Jam rated the fish recipe an eight out of ten, SUCCESS! I would 100% recommend the salmon recipe and I am going to re-attempt spaghetti squash but with a more simple recipe.
