For the past month I have been using a face cream that has Pure Silver in it. Yes… You read that correctly. I have been trying out the Zyderma Clarifying Cream to see if it actually helps to clear my skin, support a healthy skin appearence and hydrate my skin, like it states it does.
I first saw this product on the Truth Beauty Company Instagram. At first, I was scared to try it because I always thought putting silver on your skin would be bad for you and cause reactions. But, I needed a new face cream and thought, why not? There are only six ingredients in this cream:
Cetearyl Olivate (Cetearyl alcohol and fatty acids from Olive Oil)
Sorbitan Olivate (Emulsifier from Sorbitan Sugar and Fatty Acids from Olive Oil)
Propanediol (A glycol derived from corn that helps absorption)
Xanthan Gum (Thickener, Stabilizer, Additive)
This cream Dermatologist-tested, hypoallergenic and is a non-irritant. I did not have any reactions from this on my face or my allergies since there is no smell. The ingredients are super simple which is why I think people with sensitive skin really gravitate towards this product.
What is it?
This cream has “porous micronized silver particles” in it that forms a protective layer ontop of the skin. The silver is not small enough to absorb into the skin, it’s been formulated to be used on skin and not cause any harm or reactions. It can be used before or after a workout, before sun exposure, and below or ontop of most products/ingredients (they have a list of some ingredients to avoid)! Zyderma claims that the Clarifying Cream provides a “microbial cleansing action”, this means it helps rid your skin of any nasty bacteria that could cause problems. So it protects from environmental stressors, helps the skin look healthy and cleans the skin from harmful bacteria.
This cream has been recommended for those with skin conditions or sensitive and acne-prone skin. I don’t really have any of those, my skin can be a little sensitive and I get pretty bad hormonal breakouts, which is what I tested this on!
There are actually a lot of articles online that state Silver is safe to use in skin care and has a lot of benefits. I always do my research on a product before buying it so I’m aware of what I am putting on my skin and in my body.
Like I said before, I didn’t react from this and I could tell it was very gentle. I got the sample pack which includes three small samples that lasted me about a month! I really liked this cream, I was always nervous about the Silver because of how unknown it was for me. But, after I did my research I felt more comfortable using it. It didn’t leave my skin dry and I could tell it was helping my breakouts. It wouldn’t stop them from happening, because for me it’s hormonal, but it actually helped them go away faster. I was shocked how quickly they dried up and disappeared compared to me using a different moisturizer. I don’t think it really changed how my skin looked, I still had pretty oily days. But, when I sent Zyderma a message on Instagram with some questions one of the representatives told me that it helps over time, so you would have to use it for a while to see the big results (like most products).
I do think this cream is very nice and light for the summer, but I feel like anyone with dry skin would need to pair it with an oil or another cream. You can just use it as a topical treatment or all over as a moisturizer. This won’t really help with anti-aging, providing nutrients for the skin or anything you might get from a more complex ingredient list. This cream is really just for protecting and clearing the skin.
Even though I did like this cream and would buy more, but I don’t think I will continue to use it just because I don’t have the skin type that would need it longterm. But I would have loved to try this when I had Acne Rosacea and see if it cleared that up. I also want a bit more from my moistuizer if I am going to spend $60. I like when my moistuizer has a lot of skin vitamins, oils and helpful ingredients in it. Give me that Vitamin C, Squalane Oil, Retinols and fancy acids! But, this was still really nice. I think this would be great for anyone with sensitive skin who just wants a very simple moisturizer, the reviews show that it works for a lot of people.
